At last, a leader who believes in ‘we’ rather than ‘me’

January 21, 2021 By Beverley Glick Leave a Comment

As I watched the swearing-in of POTUS 46, I wept like a baby - just like I did when the networks called the US election for Joe Biden back in November. They were tears of exhaustion and relief that, finally, 45 no longer has the power to wreak damage on the world. After an anxious wait during which American democracy was shaken to its core, Trump finally departed the White House (I had to … [Read more...] about At last, a leader who believes in ‘we’ rather than ‘me’

Can we finally dare to hope?

November 10, 2020 By Beverley Glick 8 Comments

I can’t stop crying. The salty drops trickling down my cheeks are tears of release, relief, and joy. I can't stop watching videos of people partying in the streets of American cities, celebrating the announcement that Joe Biden is now President-Elect, and I can see they’re experiencing similar emotions. I remember sitting in the cinema watching Return of the King with a friend and becoming overwhelmed at the sheer scale and majesty of the sequence - but also the deeper meaning of what I was seeing. In the narrative arc of the film, this represents a … [Read more...] about

How the story of my love was told, over and over again

April 17, 2012 By Beverley Glick Leave a Comment

I mentioned in last Saturday’s post that if you Google me, the first listing is a link to an article I wrote for the Sunday Express in 2009, which tells the story of how I met my future husband - when I was 50 and he was 29. To celebrate our second wedding anniversary, I’m going to tell you the story behind the story.  I was in the office at the Sunday Express, doing that girly thing … [Read more...] about How the story of my love was told, over and over again
