Where did it all begin? And where will it go from here?

April 15, 2021 By Beverley Glick 4 Comments

I was recently invited by narrative photographer and film-maker Riccardo Sai to discuss origin stories - what they are, how to tell them, and how you can use them to promote your business. You can watch the whole interview below. It has been a while since I tried to tell my own origin story. There's a version on my About Me page - but I think I could improve on it. So I sat down yesterday and … [Read more...] about Where did it all begin? And where will it go from here?

It’s never too late to become a singer-songwriter…

February 24, 2021 By Beverley Glick Leave a Comment

In case I haven't mentioned it before, I sing backing and lead vocals with a band called The Subtle Genes. Before the pandemic, we rehearsed together on a regular basis and played a few gigs in and around Bucks and Berks. All of the songs we’ve played are cover versions, ranging from The Cure’s Friday I’m In Love to the Stereophonics’ Dakota. Lockdown put an end to all that, so we recently … [Read more...] about It’s never too late to become a singer-songwriter…

Language in living colour

July 6, 2020 By Beverley Glick Leave a Comment

It makes me feel a little bit guilty to admit this but, for the most part, I’ve enjoyed lockdown. I’m acutely aware of the suffering of others, and like everyone else I’ve been affected by the collective stress of living through a pandemic, but I’ve been fortunate enough to stay healthy and present enough to allow creativity to blossom.  I’ve managed to write the first draft of a book … [Read more...] about Language in living colour

Stop hating self-promotion and start letting people fall in love with you

June 17, 2018 By Beverley Glick 5 Comments

Self-promotion. What does it mean to you? To me it means anything that helps to raise my profile and reach the people I most want to work with. It’s about me but it’s not all about me, if that makes sense. So I was shocked when I Googled ‘self-promotion’ and at the top of the page was the following definition: “The action of promoting or publicising oneself or one’s activities, especially in a … [Read more...] about Stop hating self-promotion and start letting people fall in love with you

How to stop fitting in and start doing your own thing

August 28, 2017 By Beverley Glick 5 Comments

Most people who knew me when I was a rock journalist in the 80s would probably agree that I stood out. There weren’t that many women working for the music papers at that time – and certainly not women who wore bespoke black and red latex dresses accessorised with six-inch stilettos. But despite my maverick beginnings, as I gained experience as a journalist I gradually became more sensible and … [Read more...] about How to stop fitting in and start doing your own thing

What’s your metaphor for life?

April 20, 2012 By Beverley Glick Leave a Comment

I’m on a roll now, playing with metaphors like a kid in a candy store. Except “kid in a candy store” is such a cliched metaphor I can’t believe I just wrote it. Today’s game is one you can play at home. What is your metaphor for life? Here are some examples: Life’s a bitch. Life’s a ball. Life is what you make it. Life is an adventure. Life is an uphill struggle. Life is a … [Read more...] about What’s your metaphor for life?
